Sample Rate Greyed out in PT12?

I just switched from PT11 to PT12. I'm seeing an issue when creating a new session where I can only create a session at 44.1. The sample rate is greyed out so I can't change it and it says something like "Ext Clock."

I'm on a mid 2015 iMac and I'm not currently using an interface. Just headphones right out of the built in headphone out on the iMac. I've worked this way for years and NEVER seen this issue. What is going on and how do I fix it? I reverted back to PT11 and the issue goes away. Installing PT12 makes it come back.

I would revert back to 10.10.5, if you have a Time Machine backup it's cake and cookies easy....You do have a backup right?

You mean to tell me that PT11.3.X runs on Mac 10.11, but 12.4 doesn't? haha

Hold the n key while you launch pro tools. That will take you to the playback engine. Sounds like you may have the wrong one selected.

You were right. I use Sound Siphon to record system audio. For some reason PT12 wanted to use that for the playback. Reverting to PT11 fixed the issue because PT11 defaulted to using the normal audio output. Once I figured out the cause all I had to do was select the right playback device. Thanks for the help!
