Recent versions are very stable and thank christ for that.

I'm talking about the current version (I have Pro Tools since version 7 ..., and I have lived all the stories).

So what is your biggest problem with PT2019?

That sadly would be the best way to guarantee more instability. I doubt Avid lacks the engineering organization skills/depth to do that, and I'd hope they not try. They can't even ship a Avid Link or Cloud collaboration stuff that works, and OK that may be out of very different groups, but it highlights there are still deep engineering/product management organizational problems.

Classic innovators dilemma. Very easy to spend a lot of time frittering around the edges, and not really going anywhere significant... and on the other hand very hard to kill your baby.

So priority one for me: keep stability over everything else, get working down a priority list of enhancements but do not sacrifice stability. Hopefully with lots of the CPU stability improvements in 2019.x more (skilled/core) developers will be free to work on other improvements. I hope they don't end up spending all their time fixing Avid Link and cloud crap.

Here is what I miss in my memory:

  1. ARA2
  2. Solo follows the selection (see Cubase-Nuendo and Studio One)
  3. Improved solo function in playlists
  4. Smart solos (as solos midi or others including departures to)
  5. Move group markers (see all other daws)
  6. Allow multiple marker tracks
  7. Separate track views between editing and mixing (I want to see the AUX on the mixer, but not always in editing)
  8. Gather all midi functions in a general table (or window), with consistency and without drop-down menu
  9. Offer the possibility of some additional programmable keyboard shortcuts for the user (without destroying the universal base)
  10. Ability to integrate Sibelius as a partition editor
  11. Functional management of two or more screens on Windows
  12. 4k management
  13. Modern plug-ins manager
  14. Acceleration of the opening (see Cubase-Nuendo, Samplitude and Studio One, both times faster)
  15. And probably a dream: Possibility to buy options for Vanilla (such as the object edition). Some of the ultimate options are interesting for everyone, not related to Avid hardware.

+1 million for 4K Management!!!!!!!

16. Allow to open more than one session at once (with deactivated plugins for every subsequent opening) in order to compare, transfer clips, check stuff, etc.

2019: 1 update.

If Avid completes the year without updates (while there is so much to develop), the trend is 2020: zero update ....
Wow that's a horrible trend.....what a shame. They need to do better. I am not spending money so it doesn't directly affect me but I feel bad for the current subscribers over the last year, they have seen no movement.

I also read someone is waiting for Folders in the clip bins area? Really? If that hasn't happened I don't think it's ever going to happen......That request has to be about 5 years old now.

I think we did in terms of stability. But bugfixes are not the same as features. They are implied, nothing people who already paid for the software should be billed for.

If the engineers had thought like that, we would not have invented the worm drive... because we can live without it!

No need to invent Pro Tools either ...
