Pro Tools 9.0.5 update crashed my Win 7 pro
Particulars:
Digi oo3 console Pro Tools 9 crossgrade and update 9.0.3 Complete Production Toolkit Win 7 pro x64 8 gigs ram core 2 duo extreme processor 3.8 Waves Platinum, many more plugins Win 7 optimization via Pro Tools and Sweetwater Installed update 9.0.5 and the system crashed. I reverted to saved back up. Able to get logged on in safe mode. i reboot to get out of safe mode and win comes up I remove all Pro tools 9.0 Reinstall protools 9.0 and when i reboot i get starting windows black screen frozen. to get back in i'll have to revert to backup with orginal broken protools 9.0 install. i cant get out of this loop. Boy does it suck that now you have to pay for Pro Tools Help when They are the one who effed up my computer. Win 7 pro has been flawless until this Pro Tools install. I can understand they are running a business but how about some customer service for us being their beta system. |

Re: Pro Tools 9.0.5 update crashed my Win 7 pro
I've got a similar sounding fault with 9.0.2 and 9.0.5. My machine's now refusing to restore the system, and I'm also getting bluescreens

I have the same issue. I know there are no posts, but any resolutions in any other threads?

There is actually. I think a lot of folks are of the opinion that the PACE drivers are to blame. I had PT do a belly-flop on 9.05 so I had to un-install it completely and then re-install from the 9.02 installation disk. It's running fine now but I'll be thinking twice before updating. If PT-10 is coming out I think I'd wait a bit before updating that just to be safe. At the days end, you can't rely on Avid throwing you a bone if the installation goes to hell. |

Re: Pro Tools 9.0.5 update crashed my Win 7 pro
Best option is to NOT install 9.0.5(I am amazed how many do it after the number of problems I read here). Next best option, restore from a drive image(which everyone should have). Windows 7 has drive imaging built in, but its really basic. True Image Home 11 is a great option. The last tidbit I have to offer is; only install an update IF(and only if) it claims to address a specific problem that you actually have on your system. I only loaded in 9.0.3 last week(but that's just my opinion)

Re: Pro Tools 9.0.5 update crashed my Win 7 pro
Making a good back up is always important before doing any type of upgrade to any application (especially Protools). Additionally to minimize down time and with the affordability of hard drives nowadays, I suggest (after backing up your existing drive) to simply remove it and install a new hard drive, format it, and load the OS and then the Protools application with what ever updates you are trying. If all goes well, you're good (make another backup). If things go badly, you can simply put your old drive back in and your are ready to work.

Re: Pro Tools 9.0.5 update crashed my Win 7 pro
The Readme file for 9.0.6 doesn't seem to address many if any of the common issues people had with 9.0.5. 9.0.1 has been relatively trouble-free for me. On a couple of large sessions with dense edits on multiple playlists, I've encountered an occasional assertion error - possibly the one 9.0.6 is supposed to address. But if it brings with it new problems inherited from 9.0.5, no thanks.
