Re: Why does EQ3 beat everything else in this respect?
If u can't hear the difference then what can I say
The q of equality is worth it alone. Especially for post Anyway harsh, brittle, over modulates is the eq3 Pita to find tones compared to the equality. But if it floats ur boat go for it |

Re: Why does EQ3 beat everything else in this respect?
I'm totally with Dr Sound and cut before boosting. People often reach for the HF boost on lavs when cutting the chest resonaces will yield less harsh results. When you think its the ying, often its the yang that is at fault. Clients often say it is muddy, but no one ever says it is "chesty" or overblown - which is what they mean (without knowing it).
I haven't tried Equality yet as most of clients have Sonnox in their studios (perhaps because I bullied them , but may demo it. I do not dislike Eq3 that much, it DYN 3 that I run screaming from..... NEVER NEVER AGAIN! (or anything by Waves for that matter) I do like the fact that I can change character in the Sonnox and that the automation is bullet proof. Not really convinced by channel strip yet as I like eq Cedar Dyn in that order in my dials - so all in one's are out.... Anyone tried the new Pro PLugs? cheers

+1 for Equality for me. Sounds good, and I love the way it works with the mouse.
Nice analyser, and the linear phase, analog phase etc. Haven't struck any automation wierdness with it either.

Re: Why does EQ3 beat everything else in this respect?
FWIW I have been mighty impressed by the AAX version of the Oxford EQ . I didn't remember it sounding this good. The same goes for the Focusrite Reds. The AAX rewrites may be giving some of our old, seldom-used plug-ins a new lease on life.
I finally made myself some filter and eq. presets for the ChannelStrip so I can avoid getting a headache figuring out how to do something. It is also very impressive sounding provided I don't need more flexibility.

Re: Why does EQ3 beat everything else in this respect?
I'm not smart enough to use ChannelStrip. Seriously can't figure it out. It doesn't pass my 5 minute test. If I can't be productive with a piece of gear designed for audio in 5 minutes, out it goes.

Re: Why does EQ3 beat everything else in this respect?
A-Men to that! I needed something generic to replace MDW in a project I was sending out and tried a number of different plug-ins that my client had. ChannelStrip won the high pass shoot-out so I made up a preset while I was there so I'd never need to figure it out again. All of the supplied presets seem to be examples of very complex applications rather than quick to use starting points.

Re: Why does EQ3 beat everything else in this respect?
I found Channel Strip very intuitive. It now goes on every track and does almost everything. Equality is fantastic, and I've recently been turned on to FabFilter Pro-Q; looks great. I've never been happy with EQ3.

Re: Why does EQ3 beat everything else in this respect?
Channel Strip has potential, but it is very buggy.
Using shelves on the high and low bands increases CPU usage significantly on an HD Native system, and using shelves while also turning off the expander causes CPU usage to soar radically, making large sessions grind to a halt. Certain basic features are missing, Like a 6dB/8va filter slope and the slope function doesn't map to the ICON console. Command/Control clicking the slope value in the plugin window also doesn't call up the automation lane. Avid needs to fix it, it's like a bad beta release.

Re: Why does EQ3 beat everything else in this respect?
Not a fan of the Channel Strip either.
After mixing on the S5 for a decade, I hoped to finally have a plugin version of it. I've yet to try it on an ICON, but the EQ "tabs" are annoying. Another thing about the EQ3 and other EQ's I hate if fixed slope LP/HP filters. Would be nice if they could break out the Channel Strip into individual plugins. Then I'd use the compressor. Mix an Match you know. |
