Depends on your needs. If you only have Avid interfaces, you don't even need any. What do you need to sync toghether? Just WC devices or video as well?

I think for a single device let it clock itself. If multiple different vendors etc I can see the value of a master clock. If just avid I don't see the need. I read an article from one of those digital audio clocking guru guys about it in the past.

The conclusion from this article was its placebo in most cases.

Jitter is only an issue at the DA converter stage. Before that there can be frame/clock mismatches that results in clicks and pops. The need of a wordclock really depends on your setup. If you got some external devices able to clock to the incoming spdif/aes signal then you're all good to go.

At some point when your setup/studio is large enough it's far easier to just sync the whole place to a single wordclock.

So for now at least you don't need a master clock. Every Avid interface has a wordclock i/o in addition to loop sync i/o which means you can use that for clocking.

Also, if your total cable length is not out of this world, simple passive t-splits and proper termination at the end should do the trick. In your shoes I would try that first before even thinking about a master clock.
