Default the little red clip light

I have asked this question before, the replies seemed comical enough...well received but no answer was given. In the settings, I set the clip hold time to zero and the little light ignores me and stays on. Anyone else had/have this problem? Can it it be remedied?

i'm not sure about the hold time andd all that, but you can click on the little red light and it will go away until the next time it peaks.

Uhhh, you mean, in preferences, you set the PEAK hold time to zero. There is no CLIP hold setings. A clip is a clip.

LOL...but frustrated. You guys! Does the no hold in the preferences work for you guys? I'm my own sound engineer and it's hard to tell if I have an occasional clip verses the thing just staying red all song long without me stopping the song to mouse the click away...maybe digi will create the auto mouse that will travel up to make the clip go away. They can call it motor...no... mighty mouse

I guess I am confused about what you are trying to ask. Honestly, I have never messed with any peak-hold values. I try to jsut keep my levels to where they just lick the red and go no further, but thats my preference.
If you are wondering whether you are clipping or not, well, trust me, if you are clipping you will notice. A digital clip is a nasty nasty horrid awful sound and you will know it when it happens.
I am not sure how much leeway you get in the red before a clip occurs though, but you can get into the red before it clips.
But trust me, if you overdrive it, it will be very apparent.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">The peak hold value setting does not affect the red clip light. (As far as I know you cannot disable the clip indicator.) Once an input level clips, the red light will fire and stay there until you click it off.

The PEAK hold options, are a different animal.
Turning on Peak Hold will leave a small yellow bar on the track and Master level indicators, showing the highest level reached by the section played.

On 5.3 you have 3 choices:
3 second (which will leave the little yellow bar in place for 3 seconds during playback)

Infinite ( will leave the peak indicator bars in place indefinitely during playback)

No Peak Hold (Peak indicator off completely)

Peak and Clip are two different things. If you are getting a red indicator, you are clipping.

Hope this helps.

Thank you so very much for clearing that up for me; it has frustrated me to say the least. Now I too see why a clip is a clip. And a peak is a light of a different color.
