Default Determining tempo of song in 7.4

Hi, i just started working with PTMP 7.4 and need some help. I'm importing some tracks into PT but can't figure out how to determine the tempo of the tracks once they are imported. I didn't record the original tracks so i don't know the BPM offhand.

Any help is much appreciated.

John.

Hi, One way is to select a sample/region of the track and have it looping.
Deselect the Conductor icon and highlight tempo by clicking on it.
Next tap the "T" button on your keyboard while it is playing.
Hitting the return button loads the tempo into Pro Tools.

Also there are lots of Freeware "Tempo Calculators" out there. I am on a Mac so cant advise any. A quick google threw up these.

Identify Beat for a good average tempo. If you did every 4 bars or so it will keep you pretty close. If it was something tracked with a click or sequenced with little to no tempo change, just set it and adjust where necesary. For sub-beat accurate tempo map, well that is what Beat Detective can do well. It does take some time and effort to create a tempo map with BD, though (depending upon complexity of song and your experience).
