Good point, a really really good mic pre will make just about any microphone sound pretty damn good.

i'm actually the guy emailing you about your nt-1 haha. i'm recording rock/punk type stuff... also a lot of screaming
Gonna kill a potential sale here, but for screaming vocal the Shure SM-7 is the perfect mic.

On the short budget, get a Shure Beta58A.

Say, has anyone out there tried an Apex 460? An engineer friend of mine recommended it. It has a 33 mm diaphragm. He says for the money ($200 US or so, it's killer. Just wondering what anyone's thoughts are on it.

down liked the $99.00 NADY SCM1000 over
I just find out where to start with mics. Thanx.

Nady has a tube modell TCM 1150, any thoughts?
With the NTK basically being replaced by the K2 prices on the NTK have dropped, $399 use to be the deal but now it's down to $356.
There is no reason to experiment with something like the Nady SCM-1050 or TCM-1150 when $356 will get you something with known performance.

well I have tried the 430 have 2 of them and they sound really nice i use em for overheads on drums and acoustic guitars and vocals..
I am going to pick up the 460 in about a month from now waiting for my Income tax refund weeee...
but i think its a little more than 200 US Up her in Canada it list at over 500 (have to check that price again it was a while ago they may have come down in price)
I'll let ya know then but I am sure it can only get sweeter from the 430's
peace all

FYI, the NTK and the K2 are two entirely different mics, and the K2 is NOT a replacement for the NTK. IT is a new addition to Rodes line of mics.

my statement was and is correct:

With the NTK basically being replaced by the K2 prices on the NTK have dropped, $399 use to be the deal but now it's down to $356.

The NTK is being phased out by Rode.
