You are correct. No one has got it working with HD.

From what I understand it crashes.

Hopefully Digi can make HD LargeAddressAware at some point in the future. Whether its a PT code problem, a hardware limitation or just a matter of not having the right info to do the mod is anyones guess.

Well when they get 64 bit support going it will be all better i would think. Seems like 64bit would have been done by now if it wre ever to be done..

My system became unstable (reboots, blue screens, freezes) after patching ptle to be large address aware... I switched back to the un-patched .exe and the problems stopped.

I do not have the /PAE switch set. I might try that to see if it helps next.

Anyone else having these types of problems after the full /3GB mod?

no problems here....ya gotta have the /PAE switch. when you say BSOD, unstable, etc you mean when you are runnin' PTLE, right??

Ok, let me set the /PAE switch and try that. Also, I am running the ASUS video drivers, I'm going to uninstall and just use the nvidia drivers as well (since that seems to cause random problems as well from what I am reading).

I am in ProTools, and the crashes generally happen while messing with an instrument track. Nothing "reproducable" though, seems kinda random. Such as editing midi notes, playback, etc.

BTW, my system specs are on my profile page.

yeah, start with the /PAE switch then the drivers. like they say, one change at a time. i'm runnin' the same card w/256 ram. no problems there either. i'm runnin' the NVIDIA drivers tho. i'm not in the studio now so i can't tell you what version. but i think i'm usin' the ones that came on the ASUS install cd (i think). i think you'll solve your problem with the switch. PTLE (patched version) was probably tryin' to use a memory address that the system went WTF 'cause the PAE (physical address extension) wasn't implemented.

Well, I've since tried a few more things:

1) I repatched a fresh copy ProToolsLE.exe just incase the original patching wasn't successful. That didn't solve the problem. (I have to hit ENTER after the patch utility runs before it drops back to the command prompt, everyone else experience this?)

2) I blew the prefs and Digidesign databases, again.

Random freezes, blue-screens, and sometimes PTLE would just close suddenly, no messages.

3) I changed the RAM from 1066 Mhz to 800 Mhz on the bus. (I read on the forums that this has helped other people with random PTLE problems.)

So far so good, I'm thinking my mobo/ram combination just works better at this speed... I haven't noticed a difference in performance, if anything it seems to be working better.

I've never done a dverb test, so I don't know if there is a real difference in performance from that angle either... All I know is it still plays my sessions and I don't notice anything different.

bottom line is you're up and runnin' again. but you should be able to run your ram at 1066 tho. afterall, you were runnin' it at that before you applied the patch, right??? somethin' is still not quite right but at least the system is stable now

Well I built this machine specifically for PTLE, so I never really ran it much before I tried the whole /3GB patch trick. I agree, it SHOULD work at 1066, but I have read some mobo/RAM combinations just don't get along at that speed. It's not like Corsair makes the best RAM in the world either...

If I should re-experience the problem on this new speed setting I will post back on this thread. I just want it documented so other people can have another thing to experiment with should they have instability issues like mine.
