Kev, for that price, who knows what applications you could find for those. I beleive that somewhere out there, there is the perfect application for ANY microphone(provided it works, hehe).

I recorded a song about 6 years ago using one of those cheap computer-monitor mounted microphones.
I swear it sounded better than any other mic, just because those mics tend to be Hyper-sensitive, so not only did it pick up a good room ambience, but also the voice was crystal clear and had that right tone I wanted. Almost a Radio Effect, but with more life to it.

Man! At that price it is definitely worth the trip to simply try them out for yourself.

Who knows... You might come up..

It gets mixed reviews:

Positive
and
Negative

It's all subjective, though. You should go listen to it and decide if it's really worth $50 or not.
I would try out a few different ones too as I think there are quality control issues as well. A friend of mine has one that he swears sounds better than his 4033, but one that I tested sounded like SH*%.

go with a Studio Projects C1. www.macmidimusic.com

This mic rules and its only 200 bucks. Sounds crystal clear for acoustics and vocals.

I gotta agree, for $50 they'll be good for something.

I remember a few years back an article in TapeOp magazine using that LDC marshall mic that rebuilt it into some sort of tube mic for pretty cheap. at least I think it was that Marshall mic.

Heck for $50 I might have to get it to satisfy my addiction to more!!!!!!!!!!

its funny because I am absolutly salivating over my brand new NTK, so I doubt it will sound as good to me for that price, but man, two mics for $49???

Heck, you never know when you need to record someone singing in the shower or something

The place has its grand opening at 7pm tonight. Any other DUCies in Atlanta should come up there. I will be the guy wearing jeans and a tee-shirt.

Granted, I am not a big GC fan, but its literally 5 minutes from my house, so I need to get to know them.

Graveleye,

I read through the two reviews and found the following bit of info alarming..

"Sensitivity of the microphone is average, but the 20 dBA self-noise spec puts it on the noisy end of the range. This is noisier than most low-cost condensers (even some tube mics), making the MXL 2001 a questionable choice for recording very quiet sounds. According to the manufacturer, more recent models have reduced noise and improved preamp circuitry. "

On that note, you might want to inquire if these mics that are on sale for $50 are not the early versions with a noisy end and unimproved preamp circuitry..

Regards,
- GAPE

OUCH... knowing Gutter Center, they probably are trying to rid themselves of their crap stock too...

I'll definatly be a pain in the ass customer and plug one in and ask a million questions.
It is opening night, and I am the customer from hell so they will get their practice right from the start.

They also have quicklock keyboard stands for 9.99... now thats not bad either.

I cant believe I am getting excited about a sale. I need to get a life.
