Default HELP! Import PT8 tracks

I have upgraded a system from HD/PT8 to HDX/PT2018 on a dual quadcore cheese-grader MacPro with 24GB ram om OS 10.11.6. (Was running 12.8.2, I updated to 2018.4 after discovering the problem.)

New sessions created on the new system runs fine, excellent in fact, but when opening an old PT8 session, the system gets bugged down, the GUI becomes really slow. (Meters and counters are jerky, scroll and zoom are extremely slow.)

I have tried all the usual workarounds that I know about:
Do a save session copy in… (With and without creating new audio files.)
Create a new session and import tracks. (Importing just one track with only the files, no automation, plug-ins etc., creates the slowdown.)

FreezeTrack does not help, only when deleting the imported PT8 tracks do things return to normal...

Also, the same sessions play back fine on my Macbook in (none-HD) PT 12.5, and I tried to do save session in, from the Macbook...

Any ideas on what could be causing this, or how to get around it???

Pro Tools HD10 is needed. then import session data from PT's 11+ can happen.

For me I can launch PT's 10* but the graphics/software is all shot. However, Open and Save will give you a .ptx file (Also SDII files will get converted).

Then your all set to continue.

* HD10 and or 10 license and app is needed.
I also remove all but eventual RTAS and AAX plug ins to speed thins up.

That sounds kind of strange to me, since Pro Tools 12 can open pt7-9 session format, and PT10 uses the same format as PT12...?

What format is the old audio in the PT8 sessions? If its SD II file format, you need an older version of PT to read them(and convert them to wave)

The sessions open, and you can play them back, but the GUI gets so slow'n'heavy that you can't work with it :-/

Also, it happens even if I import even a single track from one of the PT8 sessions. (No plug-ins, automation etc. only the track with the audiofiles and the main playlist.)

Here's a weird twist:
If I do a bounce to disk of the session (with import), the session runs fine until closed and reopened :-O
What the heck is going on with this system ???
