from LE 7.3.8 to LE 8 ?? what gives??

this is a very boring post but any help is VERY much appreciated.

my HDD in the I Mac went down and i had it repaired and had leopard installed, did have tiger.
had been thinking of going to PT 8 and now i see i HAVE to upgrade?? Leopard will not do LE 7.3?? well my research on the digi site came to that conclusion.

so, ca i upgrade straight onto Leopard. eg.., if i was to buy the download now (PT8) and read the dos and donts.., will it install with no other protools on it. silly question i know but i cant find an answer anywhere and ive been looking for 2 hours.

so Q; clean HDD, will it instal the PT8 upgrade?

any major gotchas i should know about. its a time where work is just starting to happen, some nice work, and sure i can get through on STP, cubase, etc.., and i have PT on the PC.., but i like my PT on my I Mac.

any links or news before i break out the credit card.., im actually back at colledge but from memory there is no educational price either.., just a passing thought, no biggy but us student workers have to count our cents.., or do i mean sense??
ANY help would be .., well there are no words for how grateful i would be.., sincerely!

In short, yes. But you have to be running Leopard 10.5.5>10.5.6>10.5.7. I bought the upgrade from a retailer. I'd rather have the disc form.
The required install meathod if you already have PT on your disc is uninstalling PT first....so there ya go.

Ummm....7.3.8???? 7.3 went as high as 7.3.1.

true no such thing as a boring question when it comes to protools.., thought it may have been asked a 1000 times ia all. :)

i do have the instal disc for leopard.., its the latest.., 10.5.7

do you mean you would rather the install disc for PT8 and not the down load??

i meant LE 7.3.8cs or is the LE 7.3.1.8cs.., LE 7.3.., whichever.., the latest update for protools LE7.3.., its not on the mac and the 002 is not plugged into the pC

Yeah, it's just a LOT of content.

What does this mean? Mac or PC? the 002R should be unplugged from the Mac during the install.
If you're tired I'd advise doing it all when you're rested and alert.

:), i did have PT installed on both Mac and PC. at the moment only the PC has PT installed. the PC does not have the M box connected (all i have to do is plug it into the usb slot, i usually use cubase on the PC and PT on the Mac, so its a sort of habit to have the m box conected to the mac and not the PC ).

i haven't brought the update to PT 8 yet. i might today. no, i wouldn't attempt to install anything, much less PT8, past 10pm, usually! Experience shows it can be a waste of time and one still has to do it again in the morning anyway :)

You can use PTLE 7.4.2 on Leopard.

It runs fine and has elastic time and is the same classic GUI.

Some people have had CPU problems on PT8, something to do with graphics cards.

I have PT8 on a white Macbook and it runs fine.

actually this is a big help and food for thought. its a balancing act.., PT8 comes with a lot of cool plugins and im pretty poor on the money and not big on underground software .., obviously.., so.., ahh.., got to think about this?? i do have cubase and STP which all have cool workflows and plugins??
