Default Current state of MDW EQ v.5

Hi All,

I'm trying to sort out all the issues regarding the newly released AAX version of MDW EQ v.5. Here is what I believe I know:
1. You can upgrade from the TDM/RTAS version to AAX for $99
2. the 64 bit version of MDW EQ v.5 does not read/replace old instances of MDW EQ v.3
3. Upgrading to MDW EQ v.5 requires surrender of your MDW EQ v.3 license

So at the moment, if you are a studio who needs to reliably open older session you should not upgrade to MDW EQ v.5 and therefore cannot move forward to HD native/HDX.

Really?

Please correct me if I’m wrong. I would LOVE to be wrong about this…

My understanding is that there is a fix in the works for #2.

No ETA though.

You ain't wrong. Somebody with zero experience in a real studio just took over the reins of company that bears the name of one of the most experienced among us. The fact that no one at said company seems to give a rip is astonishing.

According to an email from George this morning, the MDWEQ5-AAX "opens all instances of settings and automation from any old session." Good news!!!!!

AAX/TDM Upgrade Version—If you have upgraded to V5 AAX DSP/Native and have a requirement to use MDW EQ3 for TDM, there exists a special version of V3 (“V3 for 5”) that uses the V5 iLok2 authorization. For availability, please contact: [email protected]

This is correct, engineering at both companies are working to resolve this as quickly as possible.

One more thing to add...
George Massenburg has stated that MDWEQ5-AAX 11.1 loads with settings and automation from existing sessions with previous MDW versions. There were fixes in Pro Tools 11.1 and 10.3.8 that apply to this, and the latest iLok license manager is required for this to work correctly.
