Default Need some help setting up ProTools to record with Eleven Rack

So I am brand new to ProTools. I just bought a new Eleven Rack, have ProTools 10 and I'm trying to figure out how to start recording. Found the page in the manual, but where I run into the problem is that even though the Input Selector says "Eleven Rig L/R", it's dark as though it's not active. If I click on it, it has "no input" checked off and the only options available under interface are "built-in microphone (stereo)" and "built-in input (stereo)". I can open up the editor window and edit patches fine, but for some reason I can't get it to record. I'm sure it's something very simple to fix, I just can't figure it out. I'm just going in by USB by the way.

Sounds like you are using the "Eleven Rack" I/O option. In my experience it is setup wrong. Sounds like you need to Default your I/O.

Unfortunately this didn't work. When I go into the I/O window, Eleven Rig doesn't even show. I defaulted both and still nothing. Any other thoughts?

Assuming you're on Windows and only using the 11R as an Interface;

With the 11R switched on, go to Control Panel>Device Manager>double click Sound Video and Game Controllers. There should be two entries
1.Avid Eleven Rack
2.Avid Eleven rack RT DFU

If they are not there, re-install the drivers;
http://avid.custkb.com/avid/app/self...3=1450&Hilite=

Install with 11R switched off then reboot with it switched on.

Even if the entries are showing in device manager, it wouldn't hurt to re-install the drivers anyway as they may have been corrupted.

Once your drivers are installed go to Pro Tools>Setup>Hardware. Your 11R should be showing up there.

Also check that it is selected in PT>Setup>Playback Engine.

Then go to Setup>I/O>Input Tab>click Default>Do same on Output Tab >OK.

BTW, I'm pretty sure the drivers need to be installed BEFORE installing Pro Tools (versions 9 & 10 anyway).

Sounds like you have something else set as your Main interface.

You need to set the Eleven Rack as your Interface for Pro Tools.

do as Zed said and make sure you have the drivers installed.

What OS are you using?

I don't actually remember physically installing drivers for the Eleven Rack, but would I be able to edit with the Editor if they were not installed? I'm using OS X Lion and this is the only device that ever been hooked up to the computer aside from my HD500, but I didn't have any recording interface installed before I installed ProTools yesterday.

PT may be defaulting to using core audio. I think you can hold down the 'N' key when launching Pro Tools and it should give you a dialog where you can choose the interface.

Sounds like you already have the drivers installed, but you can always double check and make sure they are up to date.

No dice, re-installed the drivers, punched N on starting ProTools, I chose Eleven Rack as my device, but Eleven Rig L/R is still dark in ProTools. Any other thoughts, this is killing me!

Something new is happening though, now when I start ProTools, it does show that it's reading something off of the Eleven Rack at startup and it also kills the sound on the Eleven Rack now when ProTools starts up. Before it would not effect being able to play through the Eleven Rack when I started ProTools.

You need to default the I/O. This is something you will have to do every time you change an interface.
