Exclamation Punch in monitoring problem

Hi

Am struggling with punch in on LE.

Neither "Input Only Monitor" or Auto Monitoring seem to serve my purposes.

If I use "Input Only Monitoring" I can hear the pre roll playback in the headphones but I cannot hear the punch in section while I am recording it.

If I use Auto Monitoring I can't hear the playback so no chance of coming in at the right time !

Am I missing something here ? I expect to hear the playback up and until punch in and then hear myself recording during punch in section !

I am doing the punch in by highlighting the area and then setting pre and post roll. The punch in works in that I am able to record the section. But since I might need to continue playing for the rest of the track it is a bit tricky to hear myself only by what is leaking in from outside the headphones ! I am recording classical guitar via stereo mic onto two mono tracks by the way.

Hope someone out there is listening ....

Howard

First thing you are missing is letting us know what interface you have. Next, INPUT-ONLY monitoring is only useful for rehearsing recording(at least in my mind). So, make sure that's set to Auto-Input monitoring, and the little green "light" as seen here: http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...n7800/ptle.jpg is not lit. Which interface you have will help us steer you in the right direction. At first glance, I don't see a flaw in your method.

Sorry. New to this ...

I am using 7.4 through Vista on a Dell Inspiron 1525.

As I said, I can punch in OK but it is a bit crazy to then only hear yourself muffled from outside the headphones as you record the punch !

Auto monitoring gives me no audio at all on pre roll. Meanwhile the above situation is what I get with Input only.

Am considering having a spare Aux track to record at the same time but it feels a bit hokey.

Thanks

Howard

Still need to know the interface you're using IE: MBox2, 002, 003, etc...
