Simply move the Avid CoreAudio Manager app out onto the desktop and put it back in only when you need it. Avid CoreAudio Manager has always been problematic, AFAIK it is only needed if you want to use other apps to play back through your avid hardware. Best solution is to remove it and use your avid interface only for protools and nothing else.

@musicman:
Just to clearify: NIHardwareAgent (a software daemon from NI) blocks the NI software to load when AVIDs CoreAudio is present - even without any NI hardware present. Renaming (removing) them ONCE brings all NI software back to work (without any lack of AVID driver functionality). This suit's users which doesn't have any of NIs keyboard hardware much more then moving AVIDs driver around all the time...

For me it it the shortest way to use a terminal - but if you prefer clicking - no pob - works to. ß)

@Stereo Missile:
Your (official workaround) is not "simply" - why moving AVIDs driver in and out all the time i need it while it is much more easy to move out ONCE the NI driver "crap" nobody needs without any NI hardware keyboard?!?

I assume you just misunderstand the point here...

Ahh,
the "best way" is to loose my studio / monitor outs for any other application under Mac OS X? Cool - what a "feature"...

Yes I agree with you nielsd that workaround is a poor offering ....,

The monitors which I use for pro tools are connected to my interface ,
but I also regularly I use them (via my interface) for many other things other than pro tools

...., like listening to my music collection , watching you tube clips , etc ......,

Without my monitors - I only have the crappy mono built in speaker of my mac pro, and I cant afford to go out and buy quality secondary speakers for my Macs audio out.

I do wish N.I ( and whoever else is involved in the fix) ...,

- would pull their finger out and hurry up and sort their sh#t , this has been dragging on way too long

Do you have a digital input on your interface? If so, use a cable from the Mac's headphone output to go to your interface and use that path for your non-PT uses. A lot of people don't realize the headphone output on Macs does double duty - it's both analog and digital via the proper cables.

Thank you for sharing the info musicman :)

..., yes my interface (mbox pro 3) does have a digital input (sp/dif) via the attached breakout cable.

The headphone jack in my Mac Pro is a 1/8" phono jack.

As Ive never had to use digital inputs/outputs/cables in the past other than sp/dif to sp/dif
....., and I have some confusion as to what is the correct cable specification for the required cable for this digital signal using sp/dif > 1/8" (combined digital) phono jack ?

(eg; is there a specialised cable for this ?)

I just want to make 100% sure I have all the right info re the required cable, as this cable is something I will have to source / order from overseas and have it posted

Q2 - One last question , is there any settings I need to make to use these digital outputs / inputs , and will I have to configure this every time I use a non pro tools app ?

Currently I am not "too inconvenienced" by the N.I bug as I have now just abandoned using komplete kontrol and all their other items that are affected by it, and in their place I am now using other manufacturers products.
(which is a shame as Id buy their new keyboard if it wasnt for the bug as I still use many komplete ultimate V.Is. Most of those use kontact)

The Mac's output is as described here: https://neyrinck.com/tech-blog-mac-h...-audio-output/
it's a mini Toslink optical connection. You need to go from that to the digital connection on your Mbox 3 which as near as I can tell is a digital spdif connection. There might be an all-in-one solution but I couldn't find it so you'd have to do a two step connection. First you need a mini Toslink to regular Toslink optical cable and then an adapter to go from the optical Toslink to coax spdif. For the later there's this from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/C2G-40019-Opti...HWJVS16MF4XE47
And for the cable there's this also from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-...+toslink+cable
As always there are others out there; these are just two I found. Unfortunately I doubt a local Radio Shack sells these.

Sooooo in short: still not working in PT. At all. That was one of the best investments in my life. Completely useless. And I bought the S61 version of course. I don't get it, I mean NI have published clear instructions for Live, Cubase, Nuendo, and Logic ... but no ProTools. Super.

And it says Instance Switching (via On-Screen Overlay) and Full Plug-in Control FULLY (!!!) supported in Pro Tools. Yeah and purple pigs with huge wingspans are flying over the blue forests of the Earth...

...and I was so looking forward to the pretty lights on the keyboard. Now I'm stuck with my Korg Kronoss...

Are you talking about the Komplete Kontrol software not working at all with PT? Have you asked about this over at the NI forums?

I'm guessing the issue is related to your setup. I'm not having any problems with Kontrol S61, Komplete Kontrol software, or Pro Tools.
