Looks like sweetwater is having a 15% off bg deal. This is on top of the 15% already so 30% total

Next to drop: No new permanent licenses<This summers coming announcement>. Followed by cessation of paid updates for permanent license holders, 6 months later. Each with a blowout sale beforehand. There is a pattern here.

AVID MO: Forget good will. Create panic by slashing options to long standing customers to bolster their revenue stream. This appears to me as the wreak of desperation to buy time. AVID, this will only work for so long before you either run out of options or willing permanent license customers. Why not try scaling out by LOWERING the price instead of gouging your dwindling consumer base into oblivion?

No they won’t do that... they are just kicking the can down the road. I worked at a dot.com in the late 90s into the implosion. I saw the *exact same* short sighted behavior then. This is the classic model of frightened or incompetent leadership @ AVID. This is what it looks like when a companies revenue is no longer liquid.

At least he understands Economy Of Scale. Same with leaders at profitable companies such as Waves, Adobe, Microsoft... Those are examples of companies that do not have to resort to extortion.

...
Probably not. Folks purchased Perpetual PT with a contractual right of being allowed to use it forever without any requirement to purchase annual support/maintenance. If Avid did what you imagine, it would violate that contract with all who have Perpetual PT and would invite litigation, perhaps a class action suit.

More pragmatically, doing what you imagine would likely decrease Avid's revenue and user base.

What I stated, would in no way discontinue use of current licenses. Permanent licenses would become abandonware. Happens all the time, consequence free. See Adobe CS6 for more info.

Tell me about the Adobe crapola. It's why I keep an old Mac Mini that does email and doubles as my Photoshop machine. While I wouldn't mind having access to some of the current bits & bobs in the current Photoshop I can live quite nicely with what I have now.

It really doesn't make a lot of sense. Adobe offer 30+ applications for $75 a month, paid monthly... bail out whenever you like, and jump back in whenever you need. Avid want $79 paid monthly for a year for just Pro Tools ultimate.

If you are feeling particularly peeved about it click this link: https://harrisonconsolesstore.onfast...d=%5BUNIQID%5D

And use this voucher code to buy Harrison Mixbus for $19.00 - CYBERMON18

Imagine buying ten complete DAW applications for the price Avid charges to climb back on the support plan. What an age we live in!
