Default Unexplainable CPU Overload Error

Hey everyone,

So I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure this one out. I'm recording VO on 1 track, no plug ins , sends to Talent and my headphones. For the talent to not hear latency, I'm running at 64 samples, but I keep getting the CPU overload error however I'm pretty sure the 16GB/2.8ghz i5 should be able to handle it.

I've tried going through this optimisation guide, no difference. http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/t...Optimize-10-13

I've even tried using a friend's 4GB 500GB Mac mini as an external Audio Drive via thunderbolt to take some load off my system. Still getting the CPU overload message.

What the hell am I doing wrong?!

Cheers

Question Re: Unexplainable CPU Overload Error

What are you using for an audio interface? What is your sample rate? How is your audio interface connected to your Mac mini? Which drive are you using for your Pro Tools session and audio recording?

Hey thanks for the reply. I' using an RME Fireface UC which uses USB to reach my Mac Mini. Sample rate is 44.1.

I've tried using the internal 1TB SSD Flash Drive, an external 1 TB Samsung M3 Drive and even a Mac Mini (Late 2012) 500GB 4GB RAM.

No difference.

Thanks for the reply! I'm using an RME Fireface UC at 44.1khz. connected to my mac via USB. I've reverted back to my 1TB SSD Flash HD, after having no change using either my 1TB Samsung M3 Portable or a spare mac mini 4GB RAM.

What happens if you switch your sample rate to 48kHz? I understand that you may not want to work this way. I ask because someone else I know with a different interface was experiencing performance issues at 44.1kHz and NOT at 48kHz.

I sometimes get CPU errors as well, when mixing on my mobile rig. I'm using a Mac Book Pro along with an UAD Apollo 16 Thunderbolt. However i think it's a bug in Pro Tools. After the last PT updates things got a bit better.

if you are using El Crapitan, upgrade to Sierra. Most all of my CPU related errors stopped after I upgraded
