Spinnng beach ball with "Auto Backup" on
Having a problem that's driving me nutty (or else I wouldn't be posting, duh). With Auto Backup on, I'm getting a quick (2 sec) spinning beach ball every minute or so. Seems to coincide with my backup setting of 1 min. Turned off Auto Backup and the problem went away. Track count is high, but I've worked with higher without a problem. HW buffer set to 1024, cache size 7 gb (although I have the problem no matter what I set that to). Plenty of room left on my SSD system drive, plenty of room on the work drive - video file on a separate drive. Thoughts?

Two things:
Change autosave time to something like 5 minutes Use cmd-S frequently for manual saves; the fingers of my left hand are semi-permanently bent in that position |

Any plugins in use that have sampled sounds to load and save? this can cause slow save/back up issues. Any external hard drives connected? Does it still do it if you test without the video? Dont think auto back-up saves when the transport is running. Doesn't on version up to 10 but not sure from PT11 onwards. So is it exactly every 5 minutes? Chris

Re: Spinnng beach ball with "Auto Backup" on
Yeah, the spinning beach ball happens when the transport is parked and I'm trying to edit. I don't think it happens when in play.
If I set the auto backup to one minute, it happens every minute. 4 minutes, happens every 4 min, etc. Spent an hour and a half on the phone with Avid yesterday. Tried a whole bunch of "throwing stuff at the wall to see if anything sticks" fixes. Nothing helped. Finally he suggested that I un-mount my automatic backup drives (all internal/MacPro) and quit my backup programs. Work for a day and see if that helps. So far today it hasn't helped. Next step is replace my work drive - maybe it's starting to fail. Stand by. |
