Re: Pro Tools 2020.1
... and maybe most video customers are not on the bleeding edge? Other than those trying out the new Cheesegraters

Re: Pro Tools 2020.1
But... most customers working with video are Ultimate users and pay excellent...
I understand users with the new Mac Pros are happy, as long as they dont have established video workflows. I cant understand why Avid wasnt able to have a version of Pro Tools feature complete for Catalina after a year of preparation. Best Mark

Re: Pro Tools 2020.1
I can share your frustration, because in reality it wasn't just one year but Apple had writing on the wall many years prior to Catalina. Sure, have to give credit to Avid for creating 64bit PT and 64bit AAX and they have been on it for years already. Their codebase is also very heavy and they need to maintain Windows compatibility (bad choice years back, so don't even compare to Logic).
With that said I am impressed that we had Catalina compatible PT the same year Catalina was released. Mojave compatibility was next year. While waiting for *full* compatibility most of us can already be working on Catalina. You can never please everyone.

Re: Pro Tools 2020.1
Meant they took the notice the first time Apple said times of 32 bits are done. Avid didn't have to do a 64bit PT but they did because Apple said macOS will be 64bit only "some years" to come. So it is not like Avid was surprised last summer

I dont understand Jannes defending of Avid either. They charge excellent but deliver mediocre... They should hear our criticism.

Re: Pro Tools 2020.1
About what? Avid has relied on some video codecs that are partially out of their control so how can you put all blame on them? From my perspective PT works very well now and I do not use any of the video codecs that are dropped from 2019.12

Avid ”didn’t have to do 64bit” ... really? What do you think would have happened if they didn’t do 64bit?? No more USERS for Sure! And these days Live10 Suite is a really advanced DAW and same with Logic and yet those have been ready for 6 months. Logic I understand but Ableton and many more so why not PT? You know PT is not a ”Magic” program and its based on 1’s and 0’s like all the rest so how is it they (Avid) always drag their crap when Apple releases a new OS? If others can so can Avid I’m not calling you out but you have a way of simplify everything Avid does or doesn’t do with defending a poor product development which is BS when you charge these sums each year. We have used Live 9 Suite and now Live 10 Suite and paid 149 USD for the past 2 years all in all for the every update and feature rich release and the $149 was to goto Live10Suite that came with a boatload of new stuff! Here people are paying a minimum of $399 and in sweden $560 a year just to not fall behind and have to re purchase if the new version isn’t compatible with your OS!

Re: Pro Tools 2020.1
I also have LogicX and it is nice to have for the price they ask for it. Would not mix with it though, but it is a beast with MIDI

Tell me if I am wrong but your argument is: I dont need these codecs and am lucky. People who need the video codecs have bad luck. What would you answer if the same happens to Midi or any other part of Pro Tools only a (small) group of users depend on? in my opinion the actual Catalina version of Pro Tools is a downgrade as it offers less features. Best Mark
