Canopus ADVC 300?
Hi there,
I need to add video output for my PT rig. Is this box still the simplest/most reliable solution for firewire DV quicktime output from PT HD on a G5? thanks!! |

Lots of people are using the canopus. This has been covered many, many times here. Try the search function.

Re: Canopus ADVC 300?
I've just bought one of these to (can you believe it?) digitise a mountain of old videotapes. I was going to plug it into an ancient PC that was about to be binned and instead set it up a 'digitising station' and which would also have other uses. The ADVC300 is the cheapest unit on the market that guarantees locked synch over long periods, and I can also easily move it to another PC.
So when I saw this thread I sat up! One of my PT setups is well overdue for an upgrade, but I've got a problem in that it uses two PC monitors and a domestic TV (I also edit video and I need to know how that will look). To enable this I've been using a Matrox AGP card (P750 I think). And therein lies the problem. A new mobo would mean dumping this card and finding another triple monitor solution. So I've put it off. I've done a search here as asked, but there is a mountain of threads that don't quite answer the question, and most are Mac related anyway. So would someone in the know mind quickly telling me: 1 - am I right in believing that the Canopus ADVC300 allows me to output a Quicktime DV picture onto a third monitor from within PTLE running on a PC? 2 - Is it straightforward to setup? 3 - (now it gets unreal! ) Can also I do this with PTLE 6.4 and thereby carry on using my old 001? Many thanks! |

Ah. Yes, now I remember some discussion on that a while back. No wonder my search yielded no luck re PCs. Damn. Thanks. |

The 300 will have as flakey sync on playback as the 100 or other FW to FBAS boxes (see syncheck.com for more info). So if you want the cheapset good converter go for the ADVC110. On Playback there won´t be a difference unless you use the component outputs. frank.
