Re: Pro Tools 2020.1
Don't say SCSI, it makes my finger tips hurt.

Re: Pro Tools 2020.1
Same here. Use it for our S-6000 and EMU e6400 Samplers and I ”think” we backed up a lot of sounds for our Ensoniq EPS 16+
SCSI works and never hangs or throws errors hehe

Pro Tools 2020.1
Quote:
I only need it for my AKAI sampler now. You might wanna do what I did on my EMU. I used to have an internal IDE HDD inside it and used SCSI for transfers. That stopped being an option a long time ago, so I used my SCSI Zip drive to copy samples to and then bought an old internal Zip drive with a SATA connection and whacked it into a USB HDD case and used that to transfer samples to the Mac. After all that, I decided to rip out the floppy drive on the EMU and install an SD card reader. There was a beta version of the EMU OS for the e6400 that allowed it to read/write to FAT32 instead of its native format. So after doing the update, I am now able to save samples to the SD card and just pop it in my Mac and read/write to it like an ext. drive. Very cool. Just like using a thumb drive to transfer samples. The other plus side is that you can backup your entire EMU banks and store them on your computer for safe keeping. Sorry. Long post and totally OT, but thought you mind find the info useful. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: Pro Tools 2020.1
Wow! Super info Sardi. I will look into that asap. Sounds really appropriate and will be much more userul in the long run. Love these old hardware samplers. There really is a different sound to them than VI. Love our old MPC60 and i know we have an old Akai keyboard sampler in storage that i wanna look at again. Think it is 12bit and the sound is magical on beats and bass loops.

That old AKAI keyboard sampler wouldnt happen to be an X7000 would it? If so, that was the first bit of kit I bought when I was 15! I held on to that thing until 2 years ago.
IIRC correctly, its a keyboard version of one of the AKAI rack samplers. 6 samples total, 12bit, 16kHz and not multitimbral. The biggest downside to that is they didnt use floppy disks. They used these things called quick disks. I couldnt find any back then so I can imagine finding some now would be VERY difficult. And yes, nothing in software can replace the EMU filters to me, especially the 4 pole high pass filter. What a beast! Re: Pro Tools 2020.1
Yes thats exactly the one hehe An old X7000. (Sounds like a new lightning fast highspeed train in Japan)
Oh those small discs LOL I have a whole box of them here and they sure are hard to find today. Proprietary drives like that is not a good thing. We can still buy normal soft discs but these smaller hard discs is probably impossible if someone doesn’t have a lot of them just laying around. I see we have categorized ALL those in a big 50page photo album so there are several hundred there to re-use and to save some of those old samples Thanks for the flashback to those good ol when synths sounded pretty fantastic. I am really happy we still have all the hardware synths from 30-40 yrs back. We use many of them everyday. Yes the Prophet One and 5 needs a tune sometimes in a session but thats how it was 30-40 yrs ago Love it !!

Re: Pro Tools 2020.1
From time to time I've gotta say I actually think about how great it is that I don't have to string together those damn external noisy SCSI drives anymore, and twisting those huge fat gray cables with the gigantic connectors, and then looking around for a terminator.
