Default Delay compensation not working for RTAS plugs

This is my first post, so be gentle.

Our RTAS plug-ins have massive delay (5000 and above), and the delay comp doesn't seem to be working. TDM versions of the plugs have normal amounts of delay, and the delay comp seems to work fine for them. Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice on how to fix it?

It won't work over like 4000.

Hi,

The maximum automatic delay compensation you can have on a track is 4095 samples, if set to "long" in the "Playback Engine" box.
If your ADC exeeds this, it shuts off for that track. You will have to nudge the regions earlier by the amount shown in the delay indicator(5000 something in your case).
The easiest would be to use the TDM version of the plug-in, though.

Thanks, both of you, for your responses. In your experience, though, do your RTAS versions of common plugs (digi EQs, Waves L1) have much more delay on them than their TDM counterparts? That's the thing that seems strange to us...

Yes, as stated in the last reference guide, p.753.

"With Pro Tools HD, RTAS plug-ins placed
on Auxiliary Input, Master Fader, and Instrument
tracks will use additional voices
and may introduce extra latency based on
the HW Buffer Size."

The order you place the plugins greatly effects this though, if memory serves you will get a far greater latency if you put the TDM plugin before the RTAS..

If you put your RTAS plugins on that channel first & then all your TDM’s second it should bring the latency down a good bit.

But it’s a good idea to run your H/W buffer at 512 (or on lower latency plug-ins 1024) if you want to keep within that 4095 sample limit for the delay compensation.

Cheers
