I got that error several times when I first set up my new Mac. I was having a number of other non-PT problems, too. Making a new user account solved it all. It's some obscure bug in SL.

I often wonder if it's the upgrade memory I bought from OWC?, since the upgrade entails 2gig stick and 1 4gig stick, seems odd for not matching?, I tried zapping the PRAM and it seems fine for now, will wait and see. Thanks for chiming in bud.

I got a million of those errors, crashes etc using Harrison Mixbus. I suppose it could be hardware related, I imagine it is a pretty broad error though - I got the error on two different macs, one a brand new Mac Pro that was only one day old... so thought you may get ppl tell you its a hw or ram thing - I have my doubts.

I suspected RAM at first (I have two identical 4GB sticks in mine, though). Googling around convinced me otherwise. People who have had it have fixed it by doing things like upgrading to Lion or making a new user account or wiping and reinstalling the OS. If it were a RAM problem, those solutions wouldn't have worked.

Thanks for chiming in daeron80,

Hey maybe you could answer this?, I lost my original tiger disks, but over the couple of years I've since upgraded to Leopard & Snow Leopard and if I ever had to do a clean install of the OS will I need my original disk?, I think last year I was able to do a full install with Leopard then upgraded to Snow? THANKS

you don't need the original discs for installing the os, you just need a disc for the os you want to install, obviously.

PS - I would never run an "upgrade" to a new os, I'd bite the bullet and do a fresh install. There could be issues there as well. Do you have a Core Duo, or Core 2 Duo iMac?

Eric thanks for chiming also bud, very much appreciate it, I believe I had no problems until updated to PT 9.0.6, on 10.6.8, and I have core 2 duo Imac 2.0, am I OK, or do I have issues headed my way?

Also I just found out a person stole my original disks about a couple months ago, believe this of all things. He came over so I could fix his mix!, well I knew his partner, but not him who stole it. anyway THANKS AGAIN ERIC

Oh, there are problems with every version. Maybe just use Disk Utility every few days to keep problems from getting out of hand. Sorry about the stolen disks, though. That's a bummer. Sooner or later, an error will crop up on your system disk. The only way I know to fix those is with the install CD. You may need to borrow or buy another set eventually.

Meanwhile, when an error occurs, I always take a pic of the message with my phone so I can remember it to google the exact wording of it. Then I resign myself to reading tech forum posts for an hour or so. There's usually somebody out there who has found an answer that applies to me. I had to do that this morning for my wife, who has the latest version of Lion on her Macbook Pro and runs only office software. These fancy machines are awesome but they do reflect their makers' finitude from time to time.

Thank you both for the info. Seems I'll be doing a lot of reading and less tracking. maybe it will be worth buying one if those small newer mac mini.
