Default Volume Levels while mixing and bouncing

Good morning, Probably a dumb question with an answer like, turn up the master fader dummy, but I'm wondering if it's that simple. Is there a plug I haven't met yet that can be set to a certain decible level on a track that will give or take away from a mix, or say bring down a certain instrument signal within a tune, so you have a uniform level of sound when bouncing ? Thanks for any thoughts, Richrdc
