I worked in a room that had a couple and I ended up pulling them out. They turned vocals into cardboard imo. I do work now in a room with a couple and won't get near them!! I think even the chameleon 7720 does a far better job on a drum buss, much less a pair of Distressors. But of course we all have our own preferences!!!

I like them on snare...the bottom mic.

Default Re: New Waves Plugins

I've had the opportunity to work with all these new releases, and they are sick.

The 160 is on point. We tested against a pair of hardware units here (that differed slightly) and the plug nearly matched one spot on, but was certainly between the pair...

I would say that whatever actual unit they used, I'm sure they matched it spot on (All the way down to the nearly useless VU behavior lol... which is good, as LED behavior is accurate, and it really truly behaves and sound like the original)... I also know they made some tweaks along the way to match up with units people had and discussed.

The H-Reverb is probably the best Waves Reverb yet.... and the new FIR processing definitely shines through.... this thing will most likely be in my top two - or maybe even my first go to verb.... amazing... and the versatility of this thing is unparalleled .... I got some insane synths with this thing, using H-Reverb not only as a verb, but using the expanded features to drive it more like an effect.... all I can say is insane

The Butch Vig Vocal is pretty cool. If you have a good solid vocal take, this thing will definitely do the job to make it shine.... though, personally I am not a big fan of 'combo' plugins.... so mine is probably not the best opinion or position to advocate for - it definitely did some cool stuff, though I tend to be a bit more 'surgical' you could say.... so again, very cool, and sounds great, but not my cup of tea for a go-to plug (unless I'm just lookin to do something quick).

Tracks Live is cool. Very light on the CPU... very flexible with input devices. Cool way to multitrack in a live setting. (NOT A DAW. Clearly. Nor was it intended to be. Lacking advanced features and plugin hosting). I have other solutions for this, but it is cool, and does have it's place. I may consider the purchase depending on the price, especially considering it comes with Multirack Soundgrid for a limited time.

Just thought I'd drop this since there has been a lot of discussion.

Very cool plugs. I will note that the DBX 160 and the H-Reverb are a bit heavier on CPU than I would prefer, but no doubt due to the new algorithms in use, and this is a fair trade for the stellar performance of these plugins, and certainly NOT a hinderance.... even my modest Mac Pro 5,1 Quad 3.2 with 32 GB RAM took em like a champ, and unless I wanted to get instance crazy, they would never be an issue. I would literally have to try to make them a problem.

How did you get to test the new plugs? Are you a beta tester? According to the Waves website, they are not available yet.

You are correct that they are not yet available - but yes, I was able to test them, through Waves, and no, I do not work for Waves.

Working in the music industry does have it's highlights at times

But nobody models a Distressor; with the dbx160 we now have two - Waves and NI. People have asked UAD for a Distressor model and UAD said: we don't see the need for another compressor model. Yet they did the big Shadow Hills unit after saying that.

It wasn't long ago (And for quite a while now) that people were clamoring for Waves to make a 160... they did :) I think now we should ask them for a Distressor

it says right on the page...an 8X compressor.

So, but the bigger quesiton is...it's free? and you get the full version with a small donation?

Is it any good? (not that I need another compressor plugin...)
