MIDI Sustain Pedal?
Is there such a thing? I'm looking to get a regular sustain pedal for a Motif keyboard. It would preferably have a regular 1/4" out to the keyboard as well as a midi output to the computer so I could record the midi performance the way the piece is actually played. \
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks! Kyle

Re: MIDI Sustain Pedal?
Any sustain pedal should work fine. Just make sure your midi track is set to record sustain as well as note on/off and pitch bend. I believe it is by default as my setup records sustain pedal action and I did nothing special in the setup. I am using a Motif es8 with an old Ensoniq pedal I had in the closet.

Re: MIDI Sustain Pedal?
There is no need for a "MIDI Sustain Pedal" - the MIDI sustain data from your keyboard is sent via MIDI along with the on/off note commands.
If you don't have one for your Motif yet, make sure the one you buy will work with Yamahas - the easiest way is just to get a Yamaha sustain pedal. The Motif series doesn't have a way to toggle the polorization of the incoming pedal signal, so if you get a Roland or other brand, it'll only work backwards (in other words, it'll sustain notes UNTIL you push on the pedal). I had to find out the hard way, so I'm hoping to save you the trouble. |

Re: MIDI Sustain Pedal?
Thanks! I don't play the keys myself, and it's not my keyboard. I have a regular client who has the motif and I've never been able to record the MIDI track with sustain data. How do I go about setting up a proper MIDI track? Thanks!

Re: MIDI Sustain Pedal?
You just need a regular old MIDI track - but you do need to check your 'Input Filter' for MIDI devices and make sure it's set to record sustain info. By default it's set to record everything coming in via MIDI, so you would've had to purposefully turn it off, but check to make sure it didn't get disabled by default.
