Can anybody help?

the Silenx has both wires black, while original HD fan has red and black.
Which one of this two black on Silenx should replace red one?

You need to try it with your hand, forst with the original and then your first try. If it blows air to same direction you have succeeded. If you dont feel anything it needs to be reversed. Nothing breaks by trying, in only affects which way air goes (in/out)

thanx, did you also do it?

Funny thing is that Silenx has 3 wire (all black), I just did connect two of them and the fan is not running at all. Perhaps some of the guys who did put silenx in HD I/O can point me to which wire goes where?

it's ok now, just put some other combination and the fan now works and push the air outside. Very quietly!!

Just swapped my fan out with the Silenx one. Its a whisper of air now!

For those wondering, the middle wire of the silenx fan corresponds to the red wire, and the second one that also connects to the additionally supplied power adapter is the black one.

Also using a small screw driver and pushing down on the metal clasp thru the connector hole allowed me to pull it out easily without pliers. It slides right out!

what's the current status of replacement fans for HD I/O's?

In Germany, the Silenx fans are not available,
the Noctua NF-A8 or NF-R8 only offer 31 cfm which is a bit low.
Arctic F8 is similar but less quiet.
BeQuiet Pure Wings 2 only have 26 cfm.
Fractal silent series R3 is only 20 cfm.

any other good alternatives?

is the fan speed on the AVID I/O voltage controlled or PCM?

I just swapped the fan in one of my 192's because the original one had started clicking and I was worried about imminent failure. I used a Noctua NF-R8 redux 1800 which is 53.3 m3/h or 31.37 CFM and max RPM 1800 because it was similar to the Silenx one others have used, 31.37 vs 32 CFM. The original Cofan K0825A specs say it was a 44CFM @ 3100RPM fan, I looked it up after I pulled it from the interface. I can feel that the Noctua doesn't push as much air as the Cofan when I put it side by side with my other 192's, yet on another thread somebody posted that Digi had said the stock fan was 34 CFM? Maybe they changed specs?

Is there anybody here who has had a Noctua NF-R8 installed for any length of time that is still running fine?

Do people who have put in the Silenx fan that is rated for 32 CFM notice that it pushes less air than the stock Cofan?

have one HD I/O running with Noctua NF-A8 here (NOT R8), which is 2200 max rpm. Has been working fine, it is not silent, though a bit more quiet than the original fan. Have two other HD I/O with the stock fans, unfortunately the Silenx fans are not available in Europe...

Is it the 4 pin NF-A8 PWM? If so did you just use two wires to connect it? That version seems to be similar specs to the silenx fan people have used. I may just order a silenx and compare them. How does the air output feel compared to the stock fans?

Update: I just contacted Cofan and they confirmed to me that via the limited info they had on the original 192 fan, that it was 39-40 CFM and 36db. Based on that I’m assuming that the HD I/O fan may have been different less powerful from the 192?
