Default Question about studio monitors !

Hi, I currently got M-Audio AV40 (Since years&years). I think for the price it's some really good speaker to start mixing but I need to change for something better, something more profesionnal.

I produce alot of style but my main style is Pop/Acoustic.I've done some research and i've found Rokit & Yamaha HS could be better than my AV40.

I wanna know, is there a big difference betwen the series 5,7&8 (I don't have a sub) and Yamaha are more expensive than Rokit. Is there a big diffenrence between Rokit & Yamaha for someone that currently mix with AV40 ?

The different sizes refer to the woofer size, depending on the size of your room that will determine which speaker size will suit your need. Also, is your room treated?

I notice you're in Quebec, Studio Economik, is a great source where you can rent gear and purchase. Your best bet would be, rent the speakers and try them out. That will be the best way to make a good choice.

They don't carry these speakers, but I highly recommend looking at Equator D5's they are excellent critical listening speakers IMO.

How big is your room, and do you have any acoustic treatments and/or bass traps? With no bass traps, I would steer toward the smaller 5-6" woofer as an 8" might cause more problems in the bottom octave because of the room(most "home" studios are notoriously inaccurate below 150Hz so all the extra oomph from a bigger woofer will exaggerate those issues). I have nothing bad to say about the Yamaha, KRK or Equators(which I would choose over the first 2), but I would also recommend trying the JBL LSR305's. They were a big surprise for me(replacing a tired set of M-Audio BX5's) and I am extremely happy with them. FWIW, my main speakers are Genelec 8050's

Default Question about studio monitors !

After seeing that, I for sure suggest either the Equator D5's or the JBL's LSR305'5. As I mentioned though, if you're close to Montreal I suggest you look into renting, talk to Louis Savard at Studio Economik. He'll get you sorted out. You won't be able to demo the D5's from there, but Equator has a money back guarantee if you don't like them.

What I love about the LSR305 and 308 models is the high frequency dispersion - nice wide sweet spot so listening position isn't as critical as some other monitors. Something to think about adding is some kind of isolation pad underneath the monitors on the speaker stands.

Hi ! Today, I just built myself some acoustic panel with Roxul Safe N' Sound. (4' X 1 1/2') 3'' Thickness. Will try to put some around the room so I guess this will be good for the sound isolation ?

So, should I take a 8'' woofer or 5'' ? Yamaha HS8 or JBL LSR 308 ?

Thanks !

That should surely be helpful. Like Dave said, the 8" woofer may give you some grief in the low end. With that said, as long as you're aware of what your speakers are doing in your room, you should be able to get your mixes to translate.
