Default Hardware

I recently bought Pro Tools 11 Student edition and when I try to open it it says I don't have my hardware connected. Is there a way to use Pro Tools 11 without buying an audio interface?

Hi

Great job with the Sandra report!

2 things first :

6 GB missmatched RAM will probably be an issue with PT11 when you get it running and if Inwere you I would pull the 2 GB stick and get another 4 GB same brand and specs OR get one 8Gb stick as that is the bare minimum for PT11 to function properly without giving you error messages

Second the Harddrive is too slow and will Not work. You need atleast 7200rpm for the OS drive and a secondary equal or better (SSD) for recording to. The computer specs are not up to par for use with PT11 but might run initially with errors and other problems. This needs to be addressed if you want to use the software.

As for the hardware, You need an audio card or interface to run PT11 and it can be any brand since PT9 and up so get a cheap Mbox 2 or M Audio or Focusrite online used or new. That would be my recommendations and if you want PT11 to run you will need to make those changes otherwise you will spend more time here trouble shooting than making music and learning the program.

Best of Luck
Christopher

Maybe someone with Windows knows if asio4all would work with the built in soundcard for the time being until you cannget a dedicated audio interface but that would only be a bandaid for the system.

I'm pretty sure "Student Edition" is the same as normal Pro Tools 11, just at a discounted price. You should be able to install ASIO4ALL as Christopher menitoned if you just want to get into the program and play around or mix, but if you want to record, you should get a proper audio interface.
