HD Native Thunderbolt & CoreAudio driver not playing back non-Avid audio
I am running the HD Native Thunderbolt interface on a new Mac Pro (model 6.1 - late 2013) which runs OSX Mavericks 10.9.2.
I have not had easy success with the Avid CoreAudio driver (Pro Tools HD Driver 11.1 for Mac) running audio out of non-Avid/Pro Tools applications through my HD I/O, i.e. basic ones like QuickTime, Safari. In fact, it's been freezing those apps frequently requiring me to restart the app or completely reboot the computer when it locks the whole machine. iTunes works actually but not any others. Again, this might be related to the driver not being supported yet fully for Mac OS 10.9.2? I've selected the 'PCI HD Native Thunderbolt' option in both System Preferences>Sound as well as in Audio Midi Setup to be the playback device for outputs. It doesn't give me the option for inputs in the 'Sound' control panel, but it does in Audio Midi Setup... Once I do this and then launch something really simple, like auditioning a WAV file (quicktime player), or playing a video in Safari... totally locks up as well and gives no sound. Anyone else experiencing this issue or running a similar setup? I know the Mac and OS are still pretty new so perhaps it's just a matter of waiting for updated drivers?? Curious if there's any news about an officially supported version of the Avid CoreAudio driver on the horizon for 10.9.2 (Mavericks)? And while we're at it... any news about a version of PT that officially supports 10.9.2??

Re: HD Native Thunderbolt & CoreAudio driver not playing back non-Avid audio
update: just read deeper into PT 11.1.2 "Read Me" installation notes and found this -
"QuickTime Player is not currently compatible with Avid Audio Interfaces on Mac OS X 10.8 (PTSW-163965) QuickTime Player does not currently support Avid audio devices as output devices with Mac OS X 10.8. Audio will not pass through and playback will not start. Please use an alternate audio interface for QuickTime Player, or use another software solution for playing back QuickTime files with Avid audio devices as a workaround for this issue." My guess is this is the case as well in 10.9.2 still. Too bad... so I guess most people just use the 'Built In' audio outputs on their Mac for playing/auditioning audio files that would otherwise open in Quicktime, or iTunes, or viewing anything in Safari, etc...? Very odd that this hasn't been addressed, but ok....

Re: HD Native Thunderbolt & CoreAudio driver not playing back non-Avid audio
yes, apparently it's kind of complicated to force the two sophisticated audio engines (i mean Apple Core Audio and Avid audio engine) to co-exist happily. I just use built in sound for everything else.

+1 here need fix ASAP I have to monitor some QT videos with surround and am getting tired of importing everything to PT.
This is basic- why should we be forced to use crappy internal audio with professional studio monitors?

Still no update for this problem?
guess i am in the same boat. cant get my Avid Core Audio to work i can only get audio inside PT 11 HD-N. Current set up: Mac Pro(12 core late 2013) OSX 10.9.3, 11.2 HD-N card inside a Magma thunderbolt.

Re: HD Native Thunderbolt & CoreAudio driver not playing back non-Avid audio
I have the same issue with PT 11.2.1 HDX vs. Safari 7.0.6
iTunes works fine (which runs on the QuickTime engine last I checked...), Firefox works fine, but no luck with Safari. I'll try QuickTime and quicklook next and then start trashing Safari and QT prefs...
