We are using Avalon VT737sp's or Avalon AD-2022 into a Millenia Media TCL-2. We have no complaints about either setup, so I suppose that makes them favorites. We definitely have a worst, and that would be the Focusrite Red1. You could not pay me to use that thing.

I like those John Hardy pres. Into a hardware L2, and I'm pretty darn happy. Lots of tiimes I'm just using a Sound Devices 302, because it matches production and the limiters are super-useful in guerilla situations. But, you're asking about VO and not ADR. The Millennia is great too, can't go wrong with those...

Just my opinion,
S.

I produce radio spots, so VO (and sound design) is pretty much all I do. I own and love both the Buzz Audio MA2.2 and the Avalon 2022, the Buzz being my favorite. I've also used and liked the API's and Grace. Guess that makes me a Class A transformerless kinda guy.

Focusrite ISA 110 and...

TC Electronics Gold Channel- The defaults suck, but if you're willing to work with it you can get some very nice sounds

Yeah, I've always liked the sound of a TLAudio pre (a tube pre) going into a LA-2. And for that reason, I wondered if anyone has had any experience with the Universal Audio 610/LA-2 combo that they have. And lately, my favorite software compressor/limiter has been the 1176. So what about any experience with the Universal Audio 6176?

I've also been considering Millennia STT-1 because of it's ability to capture a colorless or colored sound. I'm just concerned that this box has too many choices for some of our operators in this facility. The Universal Audio boxes seem less complicated.

We either use a focusrite ISA430 or a GML into Summit TLA100. I tend to like the GML combo better. Just sounds rich and full.

My $.02

I have an Avalon 2022 , a Massenberg and the TC gold channel, but my personal favorite has been the Aphex 1100. Quiet, tons of headroom and very rich sounding with a smooth mid and top end. The TC I would not recommend and the Avalon and Massenberg are both very respectable preamps.
