Yeah, still doesn't work. Just installed it. Does anyone know the path of least resistance to HD money wise? I know I shouldn't even be considering this given the little bit of conspiracy theorist in me kind of believes that Avid does this very thing on purpose to make people want HD. Sad huh!

The fix should be available tomorrow (Friday) afternoon.

So sorry for the conflicting info (on top the problem). We have not posted a fix yet so it won't help to download & reinstall now - I'm looking into where that info came from. The fix is a high priority and is in progress. For now... please stick with 12.8.1 if you use VCA Tracks in Pro Tools (non-HD).

Hey Jeffro,

Always good to have you here, but you must already be having a pretty hard time on the DUC smoothing ruffled feathers, escalating stuff to Avid etc, without having to deal with this kind of question (but it must be asked): Has Avid stopped beta testing before releases?

No personal aggravation meant or implied...just curious about Avid's PT12 release procedure over the last couple of years.

Just rolled back to 12.8.1

I’ll wait it out for another few weeks and see if anything materialises. Opened a case about two graphic related issues - one being the multi-tool icon and the other waveform drawing issues. Neither affect performance, but are annoying to the user.

This is a valid question and it needs to be addressed.

I am sure that this release was beta tested, but I'm guessing that it was sent to a limited user demographic. There's no way that something like this would have been missed if it had been beta tested by a broad spectrum of users.
My suspicion is that the majority of testing is done on in-house turn-key systems that are optimized for Protools only and tested with mostly Avid plug-ins and Avid hardware.
To me, this is like testing an airplane in a wind chamber and then sending it up in the sky with a bunch of live passengers. (Ok, maybe that's a bit extreme but you get the point)

I think that all of us understand that it's impossible for Avid to control all of the idiosyncrasies of third-party plug-ins and hardware. This is why thorough beta testing is essential.
