Default AJA io XT

Will our PT11HDn rigs look like this in the future?

http://compare.ebay.com/like/2907707..._lwgsi=y&cbt=y

Whole system incl. HD-video and audio I/O in one unit?

Genlocked HD video and 5.1 audio in one TB box.

Frank.

Hello Frank,
Yes, I had a simular thought.. 5.1 audio and video over one thunderbolt cable.
I guess this will be possible in PT 11 now Aja gets supported.

And you want to rely on Aja's D/A converters to monitor a 5.1 mix?
I know nothing (either good or bed) about the sound quality of Aja converters.
Anyone tried them and compared to at least mBox 3 pro quality?

No, I just need the digital out. Hope it has that.

Edit: Only SDI embedded. So that's that.

So I picked up an IO XT, and on Monday my aes to sdi embedder will arrive. The plan is to take the AES out of my mic pre into the sdi in on the XT. Then, use the DB 25 to get to my xmon as well as my tv. I can see 16 audio inputs in Protools as well as 16 outs. I will lock it all up to tri level sync. Then, I will test with sync check to see if there is any variance in video playback sync. Also, I am going to patch it to my alt surround input on my xmon to test the audio quality of the DA conversion. Using the same session with both systems (other being a hd native rig with an omni for i/o) chasing LTC, i should be able to switch seamlessly and compare the audio quality. But, if this works well, this would be the box for many many folks. No Avid hardware to buy and with a trashcan or higher end MacBook Pro, a very portable, affordable and powerful rig.

Very curious to see how this goes (including the AES to SDI converter). I just got the new Mac Pro and have the Dangerous Music monitor controller. Looking for a good video peripheral and maybe a new audio interface. This just may do it. Please keep us posted!
