Is there any upgrade path from PT HD8?

to HD10, HD11, HD12 etc , without buying whole new system. Couldn't find any info on avid site...

As the FAQ mentions, there is unfortunately no upgrade path for PT HD 8 due to the fact that most who uses PT hd8 would be doing so with TDM hardware as HD8 was still locked into the hardware dongle. You would be able to use PT HD 12 in stand alone, but your hardware would be incompatible even with PT HD 11.

But there *is* an upgrade to Pro Tools HD 10 (not 11/12) still apparently available. Pro Tools HD 10 is the last version that supports HD/TDM hardware.

That is correct. It is $1499, and does NOT include HD11 or HD12.

You could do that $1499 upgrade and then for another $599 go to HD 12/11, and use it on anything other than TDM hardware, but that's a lot of money to shell out.

I'd try to call an Avid rep at a store see if they have the possibility to do the trading tdm to HDN from HD 10 after that, not sure if it woudl work though.

If you really want HD 11/12 then I'd call a rep instead of buying the HD10 upgrade. My assumption is you woudl go to HD 10 *only* if you wanted to keep the TDM hardware.

Oh dear, thats shame , I would have hoped that at least the $599 support plan would have upgraded me from HD8 to HD10....these bonkers schemes really are entirely of AVID's choosing...in so many cases, whilst trying to extract the most money out of their customers, they actually make less as its just not worth upgrading at all....ah well, thanks for the replies...

Did you sign up for a support plan? If so, definitely call Avid. I find it strange that you were able to do that with an older version.

No, not signed up until I know I can upgrade from 8HD to 10HD....$599 worth it, $1499 taking the P***
