edit page selection wont stay highlighted after playback

Hello everyone. I really feel like a dummy posting this but today I must of hit some shortcut by accident during a session of tracking vocals , and all of a sudden I will highlight a peice of audio on the edit screen to do a punch in , but then after I press play the once highlighted area is no longer highlited and the cursor remains where the playback stopped. So it's tedious due to the fact that I have to constantly have to reselect / highlight the area I want to punch in / listen to everytime wasting precious time. I've never incountered this in the yrs of using PT, When shutting down and rebooting pro tools it seems that the prefences have been saved so now every session I open is the same. Is there a way to restore the preferances back to default factory settings ?. Or does anyone know what to check / uncheck in the options menu to make it go back to normal ?. Any help would be delightful !.

Press the letter "n". It is the shortcut key for toggling "Timeline Insertion Follows Playback" on and off.

that def did it. (though i could of sworn i changed "Timeline Insertion Follows Playback" in the prefs to no avail). "n" worked right away however. thanks allot spkguitar and sorry for the absurdly dumb question. haha

It's not dumb at all. That hot-key is just in a really bad location; right above the right side of the space bar where most right handed, heavy handed people are likely to accidentally hit it while starting/stopping PT.

I do it all the time myself, especially when I'm on a deadline.
