Default So what happend to this Big Rock comeback.

Ok for the last few years I have been hearing about a Rock comeback. I haven't seen it. Of all of the "The" bands, (The Vines, The Hives, The Strokes, The White Stripes) Never really sold. I've seen so many A&R reps at the labels look for bands like them. I think Warner signed The Hives for 5 million but they haven't even gone gold.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">The problem is that the labels are still chasing a trend that is dead before it hits. Typical of the industry. How many folks were already sick of Sub-Pop bands before the Seattle scene hit ?
I worked in a college oriented record store when Grunge hit and nobody expected it.

Nobody will expect the next fad either. Thats why The Vines/Hives/WhiteStripes, et.al. wont sell. Record company tactics only work on teenagers and the teens in mass are still buying Brittany, Matchbox20, Pink, and the rest of the musical slag heap they are forced to listen to.

i've been thinking about this, too.
J.Lo, Justin, Chistina all up in the charts, hip-hop as strong as ever (thank god)...
parodies of the "The" bands already out and about...
makes me think the return of Rawk was the nostalgic yearnings of a bunch of 40-something journalists etc...

Maybe people realize those bands sound horrible and just refuse to buy their albums in large quantities, patiently waiting for something MUCH more sonically pleasing to be offered up for sale.
