Default HUI Audio quality...Good?

I am wondering if anyone has any comment on the audio quality of the HUI's monitor section. Good? Bad?

Reguards,

mtung

Why do you say BAD.
That's a pretty bold statement.

I have one, and it's fine.
Maybe I'm just a pleb

Yeah, it's very bold, and i mean it. It sounds like a bad AD-DA converter. Please compare it with and without HUI monitor, you'll hear the difference. At least i do, as well as some others i've read in a thread i don't remember. Too much electronics in the patch i guess.

Fokke.

I had one, too. (sold it)
In fact I had three, because every couple of months they broke down and I had to replace them. LED's didn't show a thing anymore i.e.
I also noticed when turning it off and on and it's warm (running for hours) the fuse blows. I had to wait until it got cooler....
The same thing with the other HUI I got!

I unfortunately have to agree about the sound of the HUI monitor section. It ranks very low in my humble opinion. As soon as I hooke up my Pro Control and listened to mixes done with the HUI, I heard many things i had not heard while monitoring thru the HUI. The PC sounds much much better.

OK ready for this? I ABed the difference between signal through the HUI and bypassing the HUI and here's what I thought. I could tell no difference between the sound of any audio
through the HUI and the bypassed signal. If there was it was teeny tiny.

My test was to mult the
outputs of the 888|24 to both a stereo (2tk) return on the Amek Hendrix and also
the inputs of the HUI which were feeding another set of stereo (2tk) inputs
on the Hendrix. When switching between the two different 2tk returns on the
Hendrix I could hear NO difference between the signals. If the HUI was
somehow damaging the audio this test would have surely revealed that. I
listened to recordings which I was very intimate with and of varying styles.
Cymbals were just as shimmery. Kicks were just as tight. Vocals were right
were I put them. Imaging was parallel across the board. There were no
evident frequency dips or bumps or obvious distortion anomalies.

There is no other way to say it really. I couldn't tell any difference in
the test mentioned above! Maybe the difference between a "straight wire" and
the HUI might reveal something different since one has electronics involved
and the other is purely passive.
I would never say
it was bad though and actually quite the opposite. It sounded like it
should! Great! Hey maybe I got a good one.

YMMV...

mtung

PS. If I overlooked something in testing, I'd be happy to test again.

I have a HUI at home and just finished a record at a studio with a 32 fader Procontrol. I would take home some of the mixes and keep on working and I found that my mixes from home were better that the Pro Control ones. Go figure. (Same Speakers were used)
