What model computer are you using that's so limited in ports or are you saying you have too much attached to the computer?
Years ago when the Mini first came out I picked up a copuple of Belkin hubs and they have helped me in so many situations on other computers.
Also don't overlook the advantage of a powered hub when dealing with certain devices.

Not that it matters anyway...

Stuff like iLoks, MIDI controllers, control surfaces... all that stuff works fine over USB hubs. You just don't want to run your interfaces through them, or hard disks.

That's why I asked, sounded like they might have been using a USB interface or hard drive.

Well that's true I guess, I still really like the cable-style one- it seems more flexible... especially for a laptop owner- it is less clunky than a chunk of hardware...

Here's another link to it:

MacBook Pro, it only has 2 USB ports, one is dedicated to the Mbox and the other is usually switched round between keyboard, printer, soon to be iLok and other things, and I don't like an untidy work space with loose cables etc

Well one of the ones I have is the Belkin F5U233 and it can work as bus powered or with the power supply when needed.
I can stick it out of theway or have it sitting on the workspace.
Just as you are talking about letting a cable hang behind the desk you can do with a hub since you attach the cable and put hte hub where ever you want or need it to be.

Belkin F5U233

Not sure I could deal with using my laptop without the Belkin hub and my FW Card Bus to increase connectivity.

The F5U415 is what I use with my Macbook Pro. I like the swivel action, keeps it out of the way without adding cables. Also has a power supply for extra juice.

Keep in mind the iLok can be removed after you start up PT, thus freeing up space for something else you might want to plug in instead.

There are plenty of keyboards with usb ports on them. The Apple keyboard has 2.

Unwise wear and tear on the iLok.
My 2 iLoks have way too much on them to want to handle them when I don't have to.
