Mac Cursor freezes after PT launch

Hello, I unboxed a new 27” iMac today and installed PT 2019.6 Ultimate with all of the plugins and HD driver. The iMac is connected to a TB Native and HD IO via a TB3-TB2 connector (Apple). The OS is Mojave, the latest update, sorry, I don’t recall the number and am away from the computer now.

I was able to start a new test session with a few empty tracks so I could check the installed plugins. No problems on the first launch. Then realized I needed to download a Presonus Driver for a RM 32 mixer. After installing it and re-launching PT, the cursor started freezing for several seconds intermittently. Another odd characteristic was that in some open Finder windows, columns were shifting slightly side to side as the cursor froze and unfroze every few seconds.

I tried several things like trashing preferences, etc., with Pete Gates software, resetting Pram, holding N during PT launch, and removing all of the plugs to the unused folder.

The only thing I didn’t try was trashing the Presonus driver. It was the end of a long day and I had to leave the studio.

On my final attempt at opening PT, the cursor froze hard, and I had to force quit.

If anyone has suggestions I’d be very thankful.

Why did you install the Presonus driver when you use HDN that requires Avid HD driver?

According to what I read on this page: https://www.presonus.com/products/StudioLive-RM32AI the RM32 uses computer-hosted s/w to control it.Hence the need for a driver. The product has been discontinued if this is indeed what the op is using. Also uses Dante or AVB for it's networking.

May be but still Fusion drives are widely known as death to PT or any other recording program. You'll find no one recommends them. This might well turn out to be a combo of problems with both the Fusion drive and the Presonus driver.

I run the outputs of HDI/O to the RM 32 and use it as the mixer, but not as the interface. It has worked well for the past several years with a previous 2011 iMac.

I’ll trash the Presonus driver tomorrow and see.

After my first post, I remembered that I also installed Melodyne 4 before the cursor freezes.

Regarding the fusion drive, there was no audio in the session. Would the fusion problem occur even without audio clips?

PT 19.6 is running well now on the iMac. I have the Presonus mixer running on a separate Windows touchscreen computer, which is convenient for freeing up screen real estate on the Mac. Had to deal with permissions on the Mac, too, but it’s run lots of small sessions for a couple weeks now.

What Fusion drive problems could I expect to see with PT?
