Default Number of CPUs?

We're looking at new CPUs for our Dell PWS 690. Can PT utilize more than 4 processors? If so, we may get two, quad-core, procs.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Do you mean four CPUs or four CPU cores?

wait for the 6 core i7 (2 threads per core so its like having 12 Cores!) but you must have the correct Mobo.

PT will use every core you can through at it. I would weigh the cost of upgrading the procs Vs buying a new machine as Xeons can be expensive for the faster models.

This would be two, quad-core, procs.

I could build a new machine but I am concerned with compatibility issues and being able to find a new MOBO that has PCI-X on it. I do not have PCIe cards since I bought my HD system before Digi approved the use of PCIe on Windows Vista. That... and I don't want Vista anyway.

I'm looking to get more horsepower than the two, dual-core, 1.5 Ghz procs.
