Thanks Daniel. Using my given reference,(Jimmy Haskell), although in some of his recordings the drums and bass are more evident on the left they are still there on the right. Stereo recording was a relatively new process. Of coarse all popular music sounded much different during that era. (Late 50's/early 60's). I tend to favor R&R and Country from back then.

Daniel or Dave, I downloaded the hofa plugins page. Had a heck of a time finding it and once I did I looked it over. These plugins appear to be great things but I'm afraid that understanding their use and application is way beyond my comprehension at this point in my struggling. I don't want to drag this on but I couldn't even find the one you guys referred me to. The master fader L/R equalizer thing that I asked about. This is the really stupid part. Once on their site I couldn't seem to find if I had downloaded the free plugins or just their home page. If you guys want to respond I'll understand. If not that won't bother me at all and, Thanks again,

Default Balancing a stereo mix.

It was just a review but it least hopefully it will point out some of the major areas of the plug-in

Not ignorance at all !!! No easy answer; mixing is an art and a science. Try to not think in terms of "finalizing" a mix (that's mastering, really) but rather work hard to craft a great mix. There is no "magic mix bus plug" that will transform a bad mix into a good mix. Trust your ears, instincts, and experience. Pulling reference mixes right into your session is a good way too make you think long and hard about mixing. I suggest 2-3 reference tracks of the same genre. Regarding L/R balance issues: if it feels skewed to one side, find the offending element(s) and, perhaps, try less extreme panning or perhaps find another element to pan the opposite way to balance it out. Post your ruff and let us comment more specifically. My thoughts & opinions !!!

Daniel. I did go to Youtube but was searching for any videos that addressed the subject in general and not that plugin in particular. Most of what I viewed dealt with what I have already learned here and by my own mixing experiences. Last night, by trying various panning and track level matching I arrived at what I think is acceptable. (No clips). It probably won't be as loud as I described in my original post but if it registers an average 75 to 80 dB i'll be content. If I can manage it I will post it on the "Let's hear your latest stuff" Again, thanks to you and Dave for your help.
