Default Expanding my rig.....

Hi Guys,

Just looking for some other user input to help with my desicions at hand....

I run a 002R on my home rig. Was wondering if 2 OctoPres would be a decent option. Run one of them in the Analog I/O through the TRS snake and the second through the ADAT in. But i'm new to ADAT connections and thought there may be some latency between the Analog and the ADAT OctoPre. Would that be the case and is it easy to sort out?

The other option was to go Control|24 since I am relativly familar with that control surface into HD. The only catch there would be finding a way to get all 16 pres into the 002...

If anyone has any ideas or needs me to give you any further info just let me know.

Thanks.

Default Re: Expanding my rig.....

sounds like to me, money and space would be the deciding factors. 2 octopres are cheap compared to control 24 and a desk for it(aprox. $1000.00). you would also have to have a a/d converter for the other 8 channels. we used an rme interface for the control 24 we used. decent unit for around $1200.00. i would guess around a $4-5,000 difference between the 2 rigs. that would buy a lot nicer pre's than whats in the control 24 if money was not the problem, but nice to have the control surface and the control 24 is very quick once you get adapted to it.
latency between the 2 octopre's is not an issue. if i had all the money, i would buy 1 octopre with a/d card, some higher end mic pre's for the 8 analog in and a command 8 if i needed a control surface. might even have a buck or 2 left. that is my humble opinion, good luck.
