Updated to 9.06--now nothing works
I previously posted about a couple of issues I was having, and then realized I did not have the latest version of PT 9. I just installed it, and it doesn't work. It opens up and asks me whether to open or create a session, then it freezes and will not respond. I have optimized windows, deleted preferences and databases. I am at a loss. I did add a couple of plugins like Amplitube 3, but I uninstalled those. Still no luck. I have spent a lot of money and time updating from 6.4 and now it seems like a waste. It has been nothing but headaches. I am thinking of returning or selling everything. Any help would be appreciated.

Update: was able to get it to open fully after reinstalling the Focusrite. But now it freezes up while working. Did about 3 notes with mini grand, stopped to look up something on internet, and it froze. I don't have any other programs running. Could it be google chrome is messing with it?

Start at the "Help us Help You - READ THIS Before Posting!" link above on this page.
Standard troubleshooting steps there and most importantly we need exact information on your system -- so post a SiSoft Sandra report as described there. When you say you upgraded, what exactly did you do? Run the incremental update from 9.0.5 (or what version?) to 9.0.6? What exactly were the problems before? post explanations or links to past posts here, don't make folks go look for them. What are all your playback engine settings? What third party plugins are installed? And have you checked they are up to date/compatible with Pro Tools 9 and Windows 7? What exact interface driver version are you running? |

Sorry. My frustration level was quite high. I realized it may have been my anti-virus software. I was using the free virus protector, Avast. I thought I had disabled it, but when I removed it, the PT started up well.
Can anyone recommend an antivirus that is easy to disable and plays well with PT? Again, sorry for not offering more info before freaking out!

Personally I would uninstall all antivirus software, and be very paranoid/vigilant about protecting the computer. Most problems with viruses and malware come from careless users. I might load up the Microsoft software, especially if other folks touch the computer. you can search here for past recommendations from others.
If you have a used computer, wipe everything, Install clean windows, bare minimum drivers and no AV software and get Pro Tools working fully first. Then backup and make other changes one at a time, testing they do not breaks Pro Tools. |
