Re: Creating Crossfades between regions
Shan, I tried your technique, but I'm still getting an immediate cut-off between region 1 and 2. It looks like the picture you referenced also has an immediate cut-off, instead of actually fading into one another.
Isn't there a way to get the wav from region 1 to continue past the splice point, and the wav from region 2 to start before the splice point? |

Re: Creating Crossfades between regions
as an alternative, you can:
1. move the audio files onto separate tracks. 2. use volume automation to fade out the first track. 3. use volume automation to fade in the second track.

Re: Creating Crossfades between regions
Dillon999, that's a good idea, I actually considered that, but then the bummer of it is then I have to mess with 2 separate tracks for one audio input. Do you have any idea how to get those wav files to blend into each other rather than cut out at the splice?

Re: Creating Crossfades between regions
dillon, thanks for the help, I appreciate the response even if we're still stuck. So when you make crossfades, do you just work with an abrupt splice?

Re: Creating Crossfades between regions
you said: "the bummer of it is then I have to mess with 2 separate tracks for one audio input"
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ i use all 32 tracks. i separate everything out. if everything is separated out, then you don't need to do many crossfades - you can simply trim regions down. your system should be able to RECORD ALL 32 TRACKS SIMULTANEOUSLY. so what is the big deal with regards to having a single input going to several tracks and recording to them? not sure what the issue is - i think you are making it harder on yourself than it has to be. use it like a tape recorder - have you ever worked on an Otari 2-inch 32-track tape machine? you can't do a "cross fade" on one of those. i think too many new engineers out there are lost in technology land. i am from a generation of engineers that is almost extinct now. while i embrace technology and what it has to offer, i never lost sight of what was important: avoid making things more complicated than they need to be and keep it simple.

Re: Creating Crossfades between regions
Dillon, again, thanks for the input, and I definitely am a fan of keeping things simple (since I don't know enough about the tech make it complex).
I do RECORD to multiple tracks simultaneously, but as for mixing and editing, I thought it would be less simple to have to adjust levels on multiple tracks for the same guitar part. You're right, in older times, I wouldn't have the luxury of crossfading between different takes to get the best possible region, but since it is possible, I'm just trying to figure out how to do it properly. I suppose I could do those 2 tracks and then bus them both to an Aux track...i just can't help feeling that doing that I'm missing out on the whole benefit of crossfading if I do that... |

Re: Creating Crossfades between regions
don't forget that you can also apply volume automation to the aux / bus track.
so in addition to the audio track's volume automation, you can have aux track volume automation, which helps to smooth out transitions even further. also try to apply some reverb to the aux track, to help make the audible transition less apparent.
