graphics accelerator cards help processing speed?
I've heard that increasing the perfdormance of your graphics card helps Pro tools function faster. Is this true? Which ones do you recommend?
Also, if I wanted to run two monitors side by side, would I need to get a second graphics card? or a new one that support the two? Is there a big difference between VGA and DVI/ADC? |

Re: graphics accelerator cards help processing speed?
i'm sitting here at a new Mirrored Drive Door 867 G4 with 128Mb Graphics ram upgrade. Visually, it flies, you'll notice this with things like automation. I can also run a very hi-res quicktime movie on the second monitor with no effect on the PT graphics. Something like an NVIDIA GForce 4 dual graphics card would be fine. I'm looking at outputs from one of these (1 via adc and the other dvi on 2 vda monitors) and I can't see the difference at all.
There are no benefits to track count or DSP ability |

Re: graphics accelerator cards help processing speed?
Ive only seen this benefit with our TDM system here at work. Its on a G4 and we found problems with using a cheapo card sitting in the farm card box. Of course you wont notice this problem unless your dealing with QT and Protools at the same time.
The fix was a dual (latest and greatest) AGP ATI for the G4. The only benefit as far as high end cards go are in Graphics, 3D and sometimes DV. Audio not really. |
