Just checked; not loose.

Talked to Avid's guy in Beijing. He said this

Quote:
Yes, I have handled several similar issues with Artist control and Mix. Then our QA team found out there was defect on the choker. It was fixed in the next revision.
Not sure what the choker is but apparently those of us that got screwed were victims of crappy units that has since been fixed. So new buyers shouldn't experience this issue, I suppose.

Sorry I ddin't see this until now. Here is your answer.

From post #17 in this thread.
Quote:
Well, I think I've found the part. It's a Laird CM3312R111R-10. It's a an SMD common mode choke chip. It's a very unique package. I looked at over 2000 pictures of other components and this is the ONLY part with the footprint and terminal layout.

HOWEVER...according to Digi-Key the part is obsolete and they have none in stock and can't get any more. I haven't checked other distributors.

I took the cover off my mix to verify the part and found something I didn't expect. There was a new and different part in place of L7 and L8. They were bigger and appear more robust and there was a bit of trace rework. This can mean one of 2 things.

1: The part that was in there originally was indeed the Laird part and it is indeed obsolete and AVID had to substitute the parts in there just to get it to work again.

2: what was said in #1 above AND these parts and the rework was done to address the issue many have been having with the Mix and this was part of an ECO.

If 2 is the case, anyone sending the unit back for repair should have a more reliable Mix in the future.

I'm keeping my router earthed and my Mix PSU IEC plug lashed to the PSU anyway.

Hope this helps.
This seems to confirm what your guy said here.

If you can send it somewhere to be repaired, I think the ECO is in place to change out the defective 'choke' (L7 and L8) on the power input. So instead of putting in a doomed part they will shoehorn a new more robust part in it's place...at least as far as I can tell with my unit.

Hi all. This is my first post and you might guess why I am posting here

Our little friend Laird just exploded, cracked open, in my 2½ old Artist Mix.

Does anyone know of the alternate component used by Avid to replace the CM3312R111R-10?

Cheers,
-Marco

Hi all,
I've got an Avid MC Control with the same issue, out of warranty.
Did anyone have any luck replacing the component?
If it is the CM3312R111R-10, the closest thing I can find in the UK is this...
https://www.mouser.co.uk/ProductDeta...252bJt5%252bw=
The issue is its a different size to the original.
I tried to match the max voltage (5A) and Impedance (110Ohms)
Many Thanks

Ben

Further investigation I found this replacement, rated up to 15A. Looks like its a similar size.
Only drawback its not available till 2019
