Recording directly to a GLYPH GT050Q, with daisy chaining.
Hi there!
I recently bought a FW harddrive that was pretty good. Unfortunately, it didn't work with PT9 at all. I tried everything. And the support couldn't help me either cause the drive wasn't supported by Avid. Anyway, I sold that drive, so that problem is solved :). Now I'm thinking about buying a GLYPH GT050Q-1000GB-7200rpm. But before I buy it, I need to be 110% sure that it works. I have a iMac i5 2.66 GHz, running with a Focusrite Liquid Saffire 56. Since I only have one FW input in my mac, I'll have to daisy chain the drive, where you simply plug in your drive in the Focusrite 2nd FW port, (right?). I want to record all my music directly to the Glyph drive. So, will this work properly? I'm pretty tired of DAE error 35 and such. Thanks! |

Yes it will work. I have the same drive, but smaller size. I read that Pro Tools will record better if you use a 500 GB or smaller drive. It won't have so much space to search for the audio.
The Glyphs are excellent for the money and quiet too.

These also work great, and are less expensive:

I was thinking about getting the one with 500 GB first but it feels like a waste since there isn't that much price difference between them. But I'll think about it. |

I use a 1TB GLYPH GT050Q (into an i7 iMac) with a Lacie D2 Quad and ProjectMix I/O daisy chained. No problems.

I'm using 11R as my interface into an APPLE iMac with 3GB of memory and 250 internal hard drive. I am running Pro Tools 8.5 within the Apple iMac's internal Hard Drive and since i have only about 40GB remaining, i am getting error messages such as CPU interfering with audio playback and so on, even though i'm only using only two or three tracks. Am thinking about getting a Glyph GT050Q 500GB External Hard Drive and transferring everything into the Glyph and then running everything from there. Does anyone know how to transfer everything i have on my internal hard drive into the Glyph and as i also have a 003 Rack would it run better with the external Glyph Hard drive rather than the 11R which has given me untold stability problems? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Re: Recording directly to a GLYPH GT050Q, with daisy chaining.
Your stability problems are from recording to the internal hard drive. It will help a lot to use an external. You could go with the Glyph, but I recommend the OWC Mercury Elite Pro.
Also, 3 gigs of Ram is a little light. Put 4 or more if you can. |
