Default S3 and MOTU or RME AVB and Windows

Has anyone successfully set up the S3 with an MOTU AVB interface on Windows?

Besides MOTU, RME has also introduced an AVB Windows interface and perhaps that would work as well...

There is a used S3 local to me that I am considering but if I can get the AVB working on my Windows system that would seal the deal.

The Motu box doesn't do AVB into Windows I think, only USB, but it looks Like the RME would work. We haven't tested it but I don't see why it wouldn't.

Does Avid have a direction for audio over Ethernet in the studio – is it AVB (S3) or Dante (MTRX)? As an owner of both (which can't interoperate at this time), I am curious

I think I understand both of these interfaces would connect via USB and show up as an ASIO interface in your computer. The AVB connection would then be a device on the network acting as a bridge so to speak.

What I'm unsure of is how the Ethernet connection would work. It would need to be connected to your computer for Eucon control but also to the MOTU/RME for AVB.

Would I also need a switch or would this function if daisy chained?

AVB has to go through an AVB switch (like the Motu ones) for best performance....put the S3 into the same switch.

Avid initially went with the open standard of AVB but others went with the licenced Dante e. We will work with what our customers want (So the Live consoles support both standards)

Not sure if this is what you meant, but AVB requires an AVB switch.

Yes. An AVB Switch can handle normal traffic too.
