Maaq Audio EQ4 sale at Plugin Alliance

Just showed in my email inbox about 2 hours ago - Plugin Alliance is having a 24 hour flash sale on the Maaq Audio EQ4. Normal price is $229 and it's now showing at $59 for the short sale duration.

Tempting but I got Volko Q3D when it was free which is pretty much the same.

I just realized I have the Volko too, never gave it much thought. Probably tried it once or twice and for some reason decided I didn't like it? I can't recall.

Anyway, for the benefit of Andrei & several other readers I did a quick A/B comparison of the two on a female vocal and it seems to me the Mäag sounds just a little bit smoother than the Q3D, especially in that magic air-band region. It could be just 'expectation bias' but hey, the Mäag does have Cliff's name on it...

Also noteworthy; the Mäag has detented cut/boost controls (in 0.5dB steps)(I like that) the Volko has continuous controls (without indication in numerals)(don't like that).

The EQ4 is mono and/or multi-mono only while the Q3D also comes as a stereo plug-in.

Volko Q3D is modeled after the NightPro EQ3 which is the predecessor of the Maag but they are not identical. I think I read somewhere that the new one has a different transformer or not transformer at all. Still they aren't different enough to make me hit my PayPal but for those who don't have the Volko one this will be probably cheaper

Oh this is a nice plugin. Not hugely flexible with its fixed bands, but the frequency selection was well thought out and still makes itself trembly useful, nonetheless.

The EQ2 is also a great plugin.
